Lake Country Chorus History

In the fall of 1967, two young White Bear Lake homemakers discovered they shared the common past experiece of singing in Sweet Adelines barbershop choruses, and they decided to establish a chorus in White Bear Lake. In a few short weeks they had attracted 34 interested women from White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi, North Saint Paul, Maplewood and other eastern areas.

White Bear Lake Chapter (later to be renamed Lake Country Chorus) was established by charter on March 19, 1968, as a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organization of women singers committed to the musical artform of a cappella barbershop harmony. A nonprofit organization, Sweet Adelines is one of the world's largest singing organizations for women, with chapters across the globe.

Lake Country's main focus over the years has been entertainment, education, community involvement and musical growth. Some of our activities are a yearly regional competition, fundraisers, community performance and a joint Christmas concert each year with the men's North Star Chorus. We also encourage individual growth and have had a number quartets spring from our chorus over the years. Our current quartet is called Company's Coming.

In 2018  we celebrated our 50th anniversary. It was a grand affair, attended by many friends and past members.

We believe Lake Country Chorus is a musical asset  to our local communities. We promote harmony, friendship, self-esteem, and sense of belonging. We are inclusive and welcome all women who have an interest in singing harmony to consider joining us.
